Success Doesn’t Just Come to You

Our lives are made up of so many little details to be arranged, sorted, and strategized. Sometimes, with so many details to address, prioritization can become challenging.

How can we address these challenges and organize our lives a little better?

This is what we’ve been thinking… There are three strategies that can support us in prioritizing early, so that when a challenging situation arises, the decisions have already been made.

Time Management
The first trick is time management. The simplest formula to strong time management is:

  • Make sure that you set clear deadlines out for yourself.
  • Break larger tasks into small ones and assign deadlines for those, as well.
  • Start to keep track of how long tasks take you, to create realistic expectations.
  • Prioritize. Then whatever should get done today definitely will.

Organization is a bit trickier, because it really is different for everyone. So rather than offering strategies for organization, maybe it’s more of a mind-set. When you’re looking for something, can you find it easily? When you save a file on your computer, are you saving it in a place that you’ll remember later? Are your bills organized so that you don’t have to think about them each month, but they get paid?

Streamlining these basic life things can make a huge difference in reducing stress and organizing oneself for success.

Often projects are delayed because we’re waiting for someone to check something or contribute their piece in the larger project. If you want to make sure a project is done on time, discuss clear deadlines with every member of the team and when someone isn’t responding, follow up with them.

Sometimes it might feel a bit uncomfortable to check in, so just keep in mind that we’re all juggling a hundred things and a friendly reminder is usually welcome.

What do you think? Do you have any strategies for success that work best for you? We’d love to hear from you, it’s one of our favorite things to talk about around the office.
